Halloween: A Brief History

I came across this brief video explaining the roots of Halloween, and I wanted to share it here.

Modern day Pagans still celebrate Samhain, including yours truly. I'm not sure that I believe that all of the dead wait until October 31st to finally head wherever they're going, but otherwise this is a pretty good explanation of Samhain as I see it.

My theory is that the veil actually starts thinning at Mabon, and is at its thinnest at Samhain. It starts thickening up after that, and when Yule arrives it's back to its normal thickness.

You know, the veil did seem to start thinning -- or at least start changing its character -- when autumn finally announced itself here. Right around Mabon, then.
