Queen of spades

I've notices a strange occurrence: when playing Hearts I am usually dealt the queen of spades. That seems rather strange (I suspect some trickster to be at work) and so unlikely that I would like to keep track of it. That way I know that I really am getting that queen a lot and that I'm not just going crazy. Or maybe I am going crazy, but that's another matter. Either way, I figure that a good place to keep track of it is on my blog.

So, here's a start to documenting how often I do (or do not) receive the queen of spades in my hand.

I played Hearts with my mom and brother last Friday and got the queen 6 of 8 times. It was the first 5 hands in a row, and then the final hand.

Luckily I'm good at giving her away during the game. ;)

Until I get bored of this I'll share the following info every time I play: how many hands played, and how many of them I was dealt the spadey queen.

Sickening. Just sickening.

Two days ago I went to my doctor for a physical exam. During my appointment I told her that I've been queasy almost constantly for the past couple months. She thought that it might be stomach acid reflux and prescribed a medication accordingly.

I took the medication yesterday morning, but in the late afternoon I started feeling bad. First I was just mildly nauseous and had a headache. It got gradually worse when I got off work and eventually I thought I was going to throw up. I was actually kneeling in front of my toilet trying to hold it back. I'd had no idea it was possible to come that close to throwing up without doing so.

As a result I stayed home sick today, and called a nurse at Kaiser to find out if there was a connection between my illness and the new medication. And yes, side effects are headache and nausea. So in an effort to make my near constant queasiness go away my doctor gave me a medication that made me almost throw up.

The irony is sickening.

And yes, I wrote this post just so that I could write that horrible pun.

My new home

I should be doing homework, but am having trouble focusing... Maybe the fact that I wrote so little during the last few months had more to do with not going to school than with my full time job.

Today is my first full day in a new place. How has it gone so far?

I hit the snooze for an hour.

I took a bath since I don't have a shower curtain yet. (Kokopelle wasn't sure what to make of a tub full of that wet stuff.)

I had pop tarts for breakfast. (My dinner last night was soup (stolen from my parent's pantry) that I ate right out of the pot at the stove since I didn't have a bowl or place to sit.)

I got a duplicate key made and bought nails. I also stopped by a second hand store where I got a floor mat for the bathroom and silverware, since I didn't have any forks.

I dropped by my mom's office at our library...burst into tears, and she drove me home.

I set up the electrical bill to come to me instead of my landlady, and I set up internet. (Somehow it's cheaper to buy cable, add internet, then cancel cable in a few weeks. Weird, but ok...)

Now I'm at my parent's home to do homework since they have a printer and anyways I don't have a work space set up yet.

So that's my first full day in my new place...up to 4:30.

Oh, and I also didn't have lunch until I got to my parent's home...about an hour ago. It's not that I have no food...but I don't have much, and I haven't gotten to go grocery shopping yet.

Can too do it

I've got a full time job that I've finally (I think) gotten used to, I just started back to school part time last week, and I'm moving tomorrow.

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised that I keep alternating between feeling like I'm on top of things and feeling like I'm simply not capable of doing everything, including homework. I love Murray, though. When I told him that I feel like I can't manage my homework he said "Bullshit."

I love my boyfriend. :)

ps. Also gotta love dyslexia. I first wrote the title of this post as "Can do to it."

Conversations with dad

"I know I'm weird. I was born that way! What's your excuse?"

"I'm your daughter."

He didn't have a good comeback for that.

Female stuff

Warning: This post may gross out a few people of the opposite gender. It's a topic I generally don't talk about publicly, but then again, it's about something that's normal and happens to almost every woman, so why not?

I woke up this morning with a back ache, constipated, and queasy. Which admittedly I've been queasy for most of the past couple months, so I guess it isn't due to my period. I'm also feeling really sluggish. Oh, and I've got cramps.

What do I want today? I want a day to just focus on myself. I want to be able to read, maybe write (oh wait, I am doing that), and not have to do anything. I know it used to be that way in some cultures, when a woman was in her period. And not always because the menstrual cycle was considered unclean. Some do consider it to be a very sacred thing, and something to be celebrated.

But it doesn't always feel very sacred when it hurts, and when I have things to do. Such as homework and packing.

I guess I'll see what I can do to prepare for moving day Monday, and get some homework done. Then maybe I'll light some candles on my altar and enjoy some aromatherapy. Maybe eucalyptus and mint.

Do you ever wish that you could just take a day for yourself when you start your period? What would you do with that day?

Back to school this term, after a term off to get used to having my first full time job.

So now, I have a question. A pretty serious one. If I get no answers that's fine, but I'd love to hear what people have to say.

What is math?
