Half the fun of Tall One playing in a bagpipe band is the stories that come out of it. Most of the stories don't find their way onto this blog, but this one will.
At the latest band practice a metronome was needed. The regular metronome was absent, but never fear, Tall One had his iPhone.
The pipe major hooked Tall One's iPhone up to a speaker, which was great, but the speaker was designed to automatically bring up iTunes. It also had a "play/pause" button that would talk specifically to iTunes, not the metronome app that my brother was using.
Lucky for Tall One nothing embarrassing came on when the pipe major hooked up the speaker and it automatically turned on iTunes. All that started playing was the audiobook Bartimaeous: Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud.
The audiobook kept getting turned on as the pipe major tried to use the speaker's "play/pause" button to turn the metronome on and off. Mostly people could ignore what was going on in the audiobook, until finally Bartimaeous said...
"You just don't know when to give you, do you?"
The pipe major always remembered to go straight for the iPhone, not the speaker, after that.
